Very Sketchy, Owners Lying About Tax - Cavalier Motel, Niagara Falls Traveller Reviews
Difficult to review because we stayed here for 10 minutes - we stopped in and asked for the price and were told $88. So we signed in and were charged $105 'with tax.' Afterwards we lugged our belongings up to our room which was dingy with paper-thin towels but we didn't expect much more since it was a motel. As we were unpacking my husband did the math and figured out somehow we were overcharged (not much, about $5.50), so we went back down to ask where the extra charge was from.

We asked him to calculate the tax in front of us which he initially refused, but then showed us a calculation with 15% tax (which still didn't add up to $105) and he said he'd give us $2 back. We asked him why he charged 15% tax, and his wife started yelling that in Canada tax is 15% everywhere, which is simply not true and we know since we're from Ontario.

We got a refund and were unceremoniously watched as we packed up our things and left the motel. All for asking why we were overcharged. It would have been fine if they had quoted a higher price and then added the appropriate tax to it, but the whole scheme was so sketchy and it seemed they were preying on ignorant tourists. Definitely would not recommend.
